Jeff Hoogland’s Back at Bodhi

Here’s some news that should make Bodhi Linux users happy. Jeff Hoogland has returned to Bodhi in his former position as project manager/lead developer.

If you’ll remember, Hoogland stepped down from the position back in September, stating on his blog that he was leaving his post “for a variety of reasons.”

In an interview with Hoogland a couple of weeks back, I learned that despite stepping down as lead developer, Hoogland has continued to be involved in Bodhi development, primarily by helping the new development team get on track. “The build process for Bodhi was largely handled by myself previously and much of my process was contained in my head and not in documentation,” he said. “That is changing.”

Bodhi Linux logoHe posted a notice of his return to Bodhi yesterday on his blog, Thoughts on Technology. “Today I am happy to share that I am returning [to Bodhi] in my full capacity as project manager/lead developer and I come bearing gifts!” The gifts consisted of “reloaded” release candidates of the upcoming 3.0.0 version of Bodhi in both 32 and 64 bit versions. “Over the past couple of weeks I have re-familiarized myself with what has been going on in the land of Enlightenment and cleaning up the Bodhi build scripts,” he explained.

Bodhi Linux 3.0.0 is scheduled for a prime time release in February.

It appears that some changes have been made to the Bodhi website, which hadn’t been updated in quite a while at the time of our interview. The changes include a link to the new Bodhi Linux 3.0.0 RC2 Reloaded.

We are working to get in touch with Hoogland to get more information about his decision to return. We will keep you updated.

In the meantime, this can only be seen as good news to Bodhi’s user base. A giant question mark has been removed.
