May Is ‘Pledge Month’ on FOSS Force

Late yesterday afternoon, we very quietly went live with our first ever Indiegogo fundraising campaign. We did so with no advance warning, although Larry Cafiero put a blurb about it in his Week in Review column shortly after it went up. After five years of researching and writing for you, the time has come for us to ask for your help.

Our campaign is to raise money so that we can expand our coverage of FOSS and free tech. As those of you who visit our site regularly know, over the years we’ve put together a great team, and we’re very proud of the work we do here. But we know that we can do better and offer you even more in-depth coverage of the comings and goings in the FOSS world than we do now — if we only had the time.

As they say, “Time is money.” So we’re working to raise money, mainly to pay our writers, which will help buy them time to do the research and necessary legwork to bring even better coverage to you. We won’t go into all the details here, you can read about them on our Indiegogo campaign.

We’re asking you to please visit the campaign and make a donation if you can. No matter how small, your donations will add up, and will be put to use so that FOSS Force can become a more valuable resource for the FOSS and free tech communities. As we say on the campaign’s page, if each regular reader of FOSS Force were to donate only $10, we’d reach our goal and then some.

Besides making a donation, there are other things you can do do help us with this campaign:

  • Help us get the word out by posting on Fasebook, Twitter and other social sites about our fundraising campaign. Explain why you think that FOSS Force is important and why you would urge people to help us with a small donation.
  • Share our articles with others, either by email or on your favorite social networks. Believe it or not, there are probably more users of open source software who don’t know about our site than do. Sharing our articles will help them discover us.
  • “Like” our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter. This will also help bring attention to our site and help others find us.
  • If you publish a blog, mention our campaign and include a link to our Indiegogo page. In other words, help us spread the word.

Again, visit our Indiegogo campaign. Have a look at all of the cool perks we’re offering. And please, make a donation if you can.

As Bartles and Jaymes used to say: We thank you for your support.
