Linus Torvalds Talks Careers in Linux and FOSS

The Video Screening Room

In this brief training video from the Linux Foundation, Linus Torvalds shares why he’s passionate about Linux and open source software.

Back in 1991, a Finnish graduate student had an itch he needed to scratch — and Linux was thereby born. Hear how Linus Torvalds today feels about the range of careers available to people working in open source.

He doesn’t specifically mention that careers in open source can also be “non-technical,” such as writing about open source, teaching open source, composing music with open source, doing animations with open source, etc. Once you start walking down the open source path, you might be surprised at the doors that open up for you.

Which is a pity, I think more people, like Linus, need to make it clear that Linux and Open Source isn’t just for Techies, it is for all those other things. But unfortunately what we get far too often is Tech heads talking to Tech heads, and the converted at that.

Did he, or didn’t he give up on PS desktop domination?

    We have not!
