This Brazilian event’s website says in Portuguese (but which Google will gladly translate for you) that it’s the “19th Latin American Congress of Free Software and Open Technologies,” which means it definitely qualifies for inclusion on our calendar.

Something else that qualifies it is that we heard about it from Jon ‘maddog’ Hall, who posted about it on Facebook and said that he’s “participated every year, even during the two virtual events during COVID, and I am looking forward to this upcoming in-person event.” We don’t think we need more of a recommendation than that.

While this year the event marks a return to live-and -in-person, it will also be hybrid — meaning that if you can’t attend in person, you can watch from the comfort of your home as “the best of the event” will be livestreamed.

“Latinoware is currently the largest and most important event in the area of Free Technologies in Latin America. Created in 2004 (as the Latin American Conference on Free Software) by Itaipu Binacional and the Itaipu Technological Park (PTI), the event provides moments of debate and exchange of knowledge about the evolution of open technologies and their applications. In addition, it has a diverse audience, made up of community members, users, developers, students, researchers and government, and private sector representatives,” Itaipu’s IT superintendent, Everton Schonardie Paschoal, said in a greeting on the event website.

Of the seven keynote speakers listed, “Maddog” is probably the one who will be most familiar to those of us who are stuck with English-as-our-only-language in the U.S. (those with more diverse language skills will doubtlessly be familiar with others as well). In addition to the keynotes, there are more than 100 speakers on the schedule, who will talk about a wide variety of open source subjects.

If your company or organization will be hosting a Linux or open source-focused event, let us know about it by submitting it to FOSS Force’s Events Calendar. No matter how large or small, from local users group meetings to large conferences, we want to help you get out the word. Submit your event using our convenient online form.
