MX Linux: Hurricane Milton Will Affect Package Updates

MX Linux’s mirrors for downloading packages should be unaffected by the storm.

With Hurricane Milton a category 4 and already bringing storms to Florida’s northwest coast, the folks behind MX Linux are expecting that to be another wild ride for their main server which became unavailable a couple of weeks ago during Helene, evidently due to a power outage.

“While we think physically the server (and the operator and family) will be OK, power and internet outages are expected,” they said in a brief notice posted on the MX Linux website. “The good news for MX users is that this does not affect our user-facing repos, as they are hosted in data centers around the world. The server affected is the one we use to update the user-facing repos. So we might be a little more chill about updating MX-hosted packages this week.”

They added that updates from Debian go directly to their mirrors and aren’t routed through their main server, so they should not be affected.
