This week’s deal gives you 30% off high quality Linux Foundation Training, just ahead of a planned price increase.
Maybe you haven’t noticed, because after all ads all look alike, but we’ve been moving away from using Google’s ad network as our way of keeping the bills paid and beans on the table. Why? To begin with, we’ve never seen much income from Google’s ads, and we’ve never, ever, liked the privacy and other issues associated with everything Google does. So, right now we’re in the process of showing them the door and by the end of February, Google will be completely gone from FOSS Force.
In their place we’re running affiliate ads. These ads are not only much more privacy respecting than what Google offers, when you click on an affiliate ad and then buy a product, we’ll get a decent commission. We’re carefully choosing who we’re partnering with, based on products (do they match our readership?) and reputation (do they deliver the goods as promised and without destroying the planet in the process).
We’re also not going to do what a lot of other websites that earn money from affiliate advertising do. You won’t see us running all sorts of “news” stories that are basically advertising masquerading as news.
This doesn’t mean an affiliate link will never show up in one of our articles, however. If we’re doing an article on VPN’s, for instance, it’ll certainly include a link to NordVPN, one of our affiliates — along with an aside that they’re an affiliate and that if a click on the link results in a sale, we’ll get compensated.
That means, if you click, like the deal, and purchase, you not only get a price you like on one of the world’s best VPN services, you helped support FOSS Force in the process. In our book, that’s not just a win-win, that’s a win-win-win.
How good are the deals? They vary, but using the current Nord deal as an example, if you were to click on it today you would be offered the opportunity to purchase a two-year NordVPN plan that normally sells for $11.59 monthly for only $3.39 per month, a savings of 72%. Not bad, eh?
In addition, each week we’re going to be picking out a deal being offered by one of our affiliates and featuring it in an article like this one — in fact exactly like this one as this is our very first Deal of the Week column — and oddly, as good a deal as the NordVPN offering is (and we think you should definitely go for it if you’ve been in the market for a good deal on a VPN) it’s not this week’s Deal of the Week.
Save 35% on Certification and Training from the Linux Foundation
The Nord deal would’ve been our first Deal of the Week if it weren’t for one thing, an excellent deal from the Linux Foundation — 35% off all training if you use the coupon code “JANUARY25” at checkout — is set to expire on Friday, and that’s just two days away. After that, not only do the sale prices disappear until LF decides to have another sale, but the regular prices are scheduled to go up starting February 4 as well.
This means that if you’ve been meaning to get some training — either to get yourself out of McDonald’s and into a high paying career in IT or to increase your skills to boost the IT career you already have — now might be the time to do it because prices will probably never be this low again. You can also save even more by bundling you certifications with a THRIVE annual subscription.
