Hmmm… Things seem to have slowed down during the second week of our May fundraising drive.
As you might already know, on May first we began a month long Indiegogo drive to raise $6,000 to fund our site, and expand our coverage of FOSS and free tech. Right now, nearly halfway through our campaign, we’ve raised $730, which isn’t going to cut the mustard. So, we’ve added a few new perks to see if we can get the ball rolling.
First up: How about a really cool phone? Like a factory refurbished and factory unlocked VIVO IV with Android 4.4 Kitkat?
Here’s what you’ll get:
- The slimmest Smartphone in the world at only 5.5 mm thick, made almost entirely out of solid aluminum and glass with remarkable 5.0 inch Full HD Super Amoled display and Octa-Core CPU
- Super AMOLED LCD with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection: 13MP Camera with LED Flash with HD video recording (1080p), 5MP Front Camera
- 16GB internal with 2GB RAM, 1.7GHz Octa-Core Processor with MALI 450 GPU, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean (Upgradeable to v4.4 Kit Kat)
Yup. Pretty cool, eh? And it comes with a charger, data cable, user manual, stereo headset, screen protector and protective silicone case. We’re offering this for only $200, which is less than they’re asking at Amazon. We’ve only got one to offer, so if you want it, you’d better act now. Check it out on our Indiegogo campaign page.
Or maybe you need a desktop.
How about a gently used Acer Aspire Revo R3700? This cute little baby comes with Intel Atom D525 1.8GHz – 2GB RAM – 250GB HD dual core with hyper threading enabled. Includes MS wireless mouse and a really nice wired SK-8135 keyboard with removable volume knob (better than the keyboard and mouse shown in the picture). The monitor isn’t included, and there’s no stand, but other than that, you’re good to go.
We fired this up, wiped Windows, and put Lubuntu LXDE 14.04 on it for you. We even made sure to get the Nvidia chipset working in Linux. It’s a pretty low mileage machine, as it sat on a shelf for three years.
It can be yours, shipped free anywhere in the lower 48, for only $200. Remember, you’re not only getting a computer, you’re helping us meet our fundraising goal. We think that’s a bargain.
We’ve only got one of these, and it’s listed on our Indiegogo campaign page.
But wait, there’s more…
We’ve also lowered the asking price on the tickets for this year’s All Things Open conference in Raleigh. We’ve got two of these tickets and they can now be yours for $150 each. Is that a good deal? Well, last year the early bird price was $149 — and that was for a two day event. This year’s conference has been expanded to three days, so the price will probably be a bit higher, making this a bargain.
Go ahead, get the tickets. Go to the conference and have a great time. Sleep well tonight because you’re satisfied that you did all you can to help FOSS Force out.
You can get them on our Indiegogo campaign page.
We really need your help, folks, to get this campaign on track. Every $5 or $10 donation helps. Every $20 or $30 helps even more. And it wouldn’t take too many contributions of $100 or more to get us right where we need to be.
Think you can’t afford it? Try this: Give up Starbucks for just one day, and you can send us at least $5. Or pack your lunch for a week instead of hitting Mikey D’s and you can contribute $25. Dine in this weekend instead of dining out (and pop the cork on a bottle at home) — that should be good for $50 or more.
You like our site. Many of you have been coming here for five years. You enjoy reading the articles we write. More importantly, you depend on us to keep fighting the good fight for FOSS and free tech. We need your help. The time to give is now.
Oh, one more thing. We thank you for your support.
