FOSS Force is evolving on the business side, but our editorial commitment to open access, honest reporting, and the community remains unchanged. Find out how sponsorships are powering our next chapter.
After 15 years of serving the open source community, FOSS Force has removed all Google ads from its site to focus on direct sponsorship from the FOSS and open source ecosystem. This change comes less than a day after announcing that Nextcloud, a leading open source enterprise and longtime friend of FOSS Force, has become our first Platinum Sponsor—marking a new era in our commitment to community-driven support.
Sponsorship opportunities for site readers start at $20/month, while sponsorship for open source companies begins at $100/month.
“In a world where independent journalism matters more than ever, we’re proud to take this step and put the power of supporting FOSS Force directly in the hands of our community and values-driven organizations,” said Christine Hall, FOSS Force’s publisher and editor. “Removing third-party ads allows us to build deeper, more authentic partnerships with those who share our mission.
“I want to make it clear that as always, all of our news, features, and opinion pieces will continue to be 100% available to everyone, with no paywalls, no registration, and no hoops of any kind,” she added.

FOSS Force’s sponsorship program now offers four distinct sponsorship levels:
- Bronze: Exclusive ad-free reading for individual supporters and the satisfaction of keeping independent journalism alive.
- Silver: Ideal for small teams, projects, or organizations; includes small banner ad rotations and recognition on our sponsor page.
- Gold: For forward-looking open source companies; benefits include prominent advertising, guest article privileges, and coverage of major releases.
- Platinum: Reserved for companies whose primary business is open source; includes top-level banner ads, monthly thought leadership opportunities, comprehensive coverage, and “Charter Sponsor” prestige.
Gold and Platinum sponsorships are exclusively available to companies whose primary business is open source, ensuring our top partners reflect the spirit and mission of FOSS Force.
Sponsor benefits range from exclusive ad-free site access for individual supporters to banner ad rotations, guest article privileges, and industry recognition for organizations. Sponsorship is available now on our Pateron page. Enterprise sponsors with questions can contact us through our website for a quick email reply.
“The move to direct sponsorship not only supports us, it strengthens our entire community,” said Hall. “We remain dedicated to our core readers—every editorial decision will continue to put their interests first, never corporate priorities.”
A New Model, Same Open Access
With our new sponsorship approach, everyone continues to enjoy full access to all our reporting and commentary. We’re committed to keeping FOSS Force as open as the software we cover—no barriers, paywalls, or account requirements. Our content remains freely available to all, just as it has for the past 15 years.
This unchanging commitment allows us to:
- Expand our investigative and community-focused coverage for readers.
- Remain fully independent from corporate interests and advertising networks.
- Give supporters an exclusive ad-free experience, while staying focused on open source priorities and transparency.
As always, our readers’ interests guide every editorial decision, and sponsors help us continue to serve the open source community—not the other way around.
Thank you for being part of our community—and for helping shape the future of independent FOSS reporting.
