If you’re using CentOS 9 in production and you’re ready to make the move to CentOS 10, AlmaLinux’s ELevate tool can help.
A couple of weeks back we told you that ELevate, AlmaLinux’s lift and shift tool for easily upgrading RHEL clones, was good-to-go for those wanting to move a machine or two running AlmaLinux 9 to AlmaLinux 10 beta. Now we’ve learned that the engineers at AlmaLinux have been futzing around and that you can now easily upgrade all of your CentOS 9 machines to CentOS 10 using ELevate.
“Following our recent updates about the ELevate project and your feedback, we’ve added one more upgrade path,” proclaimed Yuriy Kohut, an AlmaLinux developer working out of Lviv, Ukraine in a blog posted yesterday.
He added that he and his team wouldn’t be upset at all — just the opposite, in fact — if some of y’all decided to kick the tires a bit to make sure all the bugs are out.
“We’d love for you all to help us test the upgrades to CentOS Stream 10 and share your feedback,” he said. “Early testing allows us to identify and address potential issues and ensure a smoother upgrade for users.”
Testing instructions are about the same as for upgrading to AlmaLinux 10.0 Beta, he said, with the only difference being in the leapp-data package used for the upgrade. Instructions can be found on the AlmaLinux Wiki.
“Please, report any bugs you may see to the ELevate leapp repository,” Kohut added.
Although AlmaLinux is always pulling little surprises like this out of their bag-o-tricks, the next big announcement we’re expecting from them will come four or five months down the road, with the release of a stable and production ready version of AlmaLinux 10. That can’t happen of course until Red Hat releases RHEL 10 — so stay tuned.
