Graham indicates that he might be going to move into more of an editorship position with the column going forward.
This week, Nate Graham moved his long running column, This Week in Plasma, from his personal blog to KDE’s blog site. Not only that, he indicated that at some time in the future he might not be the person writing the weekly blog — at least he won’t be the only person writing it.
Subscribers to the column were this week greeted by a short message telling them of the move, as well as a link to the column’s new location:
Surprise! This blog post series has now been moved to blogs.kde.org so it’s now open for others to participate and contribute! This week’s post can be found at https://blogs.kde.org/2024/11/02/this-week-in-plasma-spoooooky-ooooooooom-notifications.
That’s probably where it should have been all along, as this work is much bigger than me. I’ll remain the editor in chief for now, but do welcome contributions to help lighten the load. 🙂

The first column on the blog’s new home further indicates that Graham is anticipating having some help with the writing sooner rather than later:

No longer is it a private personal thing on my blog, but now it’s a weekly series hosted here on KDE’s infrastructure, open to anyone’s participation and contribution! I’ll remain the editor in chief for now, and welcome contributions via direct push to the relevant merge request on invent.kde.org. And after a post is published, if you find a typo or broken link, feel free to just fix it.”
This looks like one of those “end of an era” things.
The blog/column, which has been posted every Saturday for years, is closely followed, not only by avid users of the Plasma desktop environment, but by developers and media pundits. Each week it chronicles the week’s changes to the DE, both in features and fixes that have been completed, as well as in new projects that are under construction.
From where I sit, I’m figuring we’re going to see contributions sooner rather than later, which means that fairly quickly we’re going to have to get used to voices other than the familiar tone of Graham’s writing as we keep up-to-date on the goings-on at KDE.
This is most understandable, as Graham has a lot on his plate. He’s a volunteer at KDE, where he serves both on the KDE e.V. board and as a developer. To keep the rent paid and beans on the table, he works full time as a quality assurance manager at Blue Systems GmbH.
Followers of the column are going to have to make a few adjustments. As Graham pointed out, subscribers are also going to have to resubscribe. Also, folks like me who find the latest column through the blog’s RSS feed, are going to have to make sure that they’re set up to get feeds from KDE.org.
